We have officially voted to charter our own amalgamated local! This means that we can create a governance and organizing structure that empowers us to enforce our contract and build a strong union.
ASEs have fought hard for our new union and our historic Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Now that we have rights and protections guaranteed by our contract, it is up to us to enforce them!
ASEs’ fight for better working conditions is a fight for better higher public education–and we’re not done! As we build our new union, we will continue to organize toward that goal and to hold WSU Administration accountable. Some ASEs have reported hearing rumors of budget cuts, but so far, these have just been rumors. What seems clear is that WSU administration has not offered guidance to departments and programs yet about the implementation of ASEs’ new contract.
We will stand strong in our belief that WSU Administration must make budgetary decisions that prioritize quality education and research rather than raises for those at the top. Stay tuned and keep talking to fellow ASEs about what you’re hearing. And show up to our central Organizing Committee meeting Fridays at 2 pm – respond to this email for a link!
