December 18, 2023

Yesterday, we had a strong turnout at our ASE Mass Meeting, in which ASEs from throughout the bargaining unit and across WSU campuses discussed WSU Admin’s movement at the bargaining table since our strike authorization vote and direct actions on 12/4 and 12/8. These direct actions made clear our intention to take further action if we did not achieve a fair contract by December 15. We reviewed what our unit has been able to achieve as a result of these actions, including securing additional bargaining dates from WSU Admin and long-awaited movement from them on Wages, and decided that we would forgo additional actions this semester.

Though Admin has made some significant movement towards us this weekend, they still have not met our bottom line for many of the remaining articles. We deserve the progress that we are demanding on the remaining issues, and we are confident that WSU Admin can deliver that progress. To make this clear, at the Mass Meeting we decided to set a strike date of January 17, 2024 if WSU Admin has still not come to agreement on a contract that reflects the dignity and worth of Academic Student Employees at WSU by then.

Last night, we emailed Admin to book six full bargaining sessions over the next month, giving  them an opportunity to avert the strike by coming to a fair agreement on. outstanding issues (ASE Wages, Fees, Healthcare, and Leaves).

Otherwise, we’re walking off the job. Our strike starts on Jan 17.
