Dear Colleague
We won our historic first contract this past January, and are now electing an Executive Board! Would you like to be a part of our union’s inaugural leadership team? Now is your opportunity to help shape our union as one of the following Executive Board officers: President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, Sergeant-At-Arms, Guide, or Trustee!
The nomination period for Executive Board Positions will open between Tuesday April 9th at 12:00 AM PT, and Tuesday April 16th at 11:59 PM PT. All members in good standing are automatically nominated for all open positions (i.e., any ASE who has signed up for membership. If you haven’t already, you still can here.).
You may accept a nomination for only one position. To accept your nomination, please email uaw4951elections@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and the position of interest by 11:59 PM PT on April 16th. The written statement of acceptance should state how you would like for your name to appear on the ballot. Optionally, you may send a candidate statement of up to 500 words to the same email address by 11:59 PM PT on April 16th.
Elections Timeline:
- Nomination period: Tuesday 4/9/24 at 12:00 AM PT – Tuesday 4/16/24 11:59 PM PT
- Candidate statements: (Optional) Members accepting nomination may also submit a candidate statement (up to 500 words) to the Election Committee by April 16 at 11:59 PM PT. Statements will be posted on the 4591 Election Center by Thursday 4/18/24.
- Voting period: Wednesday 5/1/24 12:00 AM PT – Friday 5/3/24 11:59 PM PT (for contested positions).
- Runoff election (if needed): Monday 5/6/24.
- Election results: announced during the monthly meeting following the election closing date (stay tuned for an RSVP link).
Eligibility:
All candidates for Executive Board positions of the Local Union must be members of our union. No member may run for or hold more than one elected office simultaneously, with the exception of chairs of standing committees other than the Election Committee.
The positions available are as follows:
- One (1) open position for: President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms, Guide.
- Three (3) open Trustee positions.
All Executive Board positions are for 3-year terms. Executive board members will meet monthly to discuss Local strategies, and carry out the local functions of our union. Executive Board members are also responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of Local organizing. Candidate statements and campaign rules:
Members accepting a nomination may also submit a candidate statement (up to 500 words) to the Election Committee by April 16 at 11:59 PM PT. For contested positions, statements will be posted on the Local Union website by April 18th.
Candidates and those campaigning for them are responsible for reviewing the rules governing elections and campaigns as described in the UAW 4951 Bylaws and the UAW International Constitution.
Elections procedure:
If only one candidate accepts the nomination for a position, that position will be uncontested and automatically filled. For contested positions, a candidate must receive a majority of votes to win, as according to the UAW 4951 Bylaws and the UAW International Constitution.
Online voting:
Online voting by secret ballot will take place from May 1st to May 3rd. Instructions will be emailed to all members before the voting period starts and will be posted on the Local Union Website.
If no candidate receives a majority of the votes for a contested position, a runoff election will be held online on May 6th from 12:00 AM PT to 11:59 PM PT.
