ASEs voted to charter our own amalgamated UAW local and we are now officially UAW 4591! The number represents our unity and spread across the state with 4 Research & Extension Centers, and 5 Campuses, 9 in total acting together as 1.
Our membership drive has officially begun! All ASEs have the opportunity to be inaugural members of UAW 4591, the first ASE union in WSU’s history! Membership entails dedicating 1.44% of your wages as dues, which establishes a pool of money that we can democratically allocate to improving working conditions and quality of life for all ASEs. Becoming a member means you will get to participate in decisions like dues allocation, leadership, elections, and more as we respond to the needs of ASEs across all campuses. Click here to sign up for membership now!
Signing up for membership is a crucial step to build our ability to keep making improvements at WSU. Everything we have won has been through strong collective action from all ASEs, and this membership drive is the next step in fighting for our rights and protections on issues like healthcare, wage increases, leave policies, and harassment. With strong membership, we can continue to organize toward our goals and hold WSU Administration accountable.
We also have a Monthly Meeting next week on Tuesday, March 5th at 6pm. We’ll discuss membership, organizing around how our contract is implemented, elect bylaws and elections committees, and vote on a timeline for leadership elections. The election committee will consist of seven (7) members and one (1) alternative, and will be responsible for overseeing all Local union votes for the coming year. All members are automatically nominated for the Election and Bylaws committees and may accept nomination for either committee any time before 6:30 pm on March 5, either by responding to this email or raising a hand at the meeting. Click here to RSVP for the Monthly Meeting.
