We’re on strike TODAY! Sign up for your picket shifts here – participating in picketing (in-person or, if in-person is not possible, virtually) is how you can qualify for strike pay. Our strike is focused on achieving a fair first contract. Admin has the option to avert or halt a strike at any point by coming to agreement with our Bargaining Committee ASEs.
Solidarity from our communities!
Great news for our fight: Teamsters have sanctioned our strike! This means that members of the Teamsters union–like those who make deliveries to campus–can honor our picket line. State Senators Keiser, Shewmake, Saldaña, Valdez, and Stanford signed a letter of support requesting that Admin conclude bargaining efforts NOW and negotiate in good faith. Pullman City councilmembers Eric Fejeran and Carla Marcela De Lira have sent letters in support of our union to WSU Admin. Spokane City Councilmember Paul Dillon will be with us on the picket line. Members of UAW 4121 (UW) and WAWU (WWU) and new organizers at CWU will be on picket lines in Puyallup, Mt. Vernon, Vancouver and Wenatchee. Central Labor Councils across the state have put calls out for members to oin us on the picket line. Our communities are behind us in our fight for a fair contract!
ASEs demand WSU stop intimidation tactics
Earlier today, a group of ASEs marched to Vice President Elizabeth Chilton’s office to demand that WSU Admin stop trying to intimidate workers, and focus on reaching agreement on a fair first contract instead. WSU Admin has directed faculty and staff to send out misleading emails about reporting strike participation. As we said in our demand to bargain a few days ago, we demand that WSU Admin retract their direction to the departments and faculties regarding requirements for changing ASEs’ work status and engage us in bargaining over this new rule related to reporting work time.
Get to the Picket Line!
Make sure you plan how you’ll get to your picket location, including checking the weather and wearing appropriate clothing! Long underwear or leggings, big gloves, thick socks, and lots of layers will help keep you warm! Check out this Cold Weather Strike Toolkit to get more ideas on how to stay warm. Your picketing location will also have heating shelters, hand warmers, and other supplies available to all picketers.
How to register for Strike Pay
Please read through these instructions so that you are prepared with the necessary materials to register for strike pay.
Once you’re on the picket line!
When you get to your strike location at the time and place for which you are registered, a designated person will help you sign in.
ASEs are united in the fight for a fair first contract and our bargaining team will continue to negotiate with WSU Admin to come to a fair agreement as soon as possible.
