Dear fellow ASEs,
Collective action gets the goods! When ASEs fight together, we win! We saw this in the contract campaign, and we saw it this month when ASEs in Plant Pathology at the Pullman campus were not paid. Department Admin told the ASEs that their wages would come two weeks later–unacceptable! ASEs took collective action: they did a rolling “march on the boss” all day, delegating one administrator after another as a group, not deterred by obstacles like “key administrator on vacation” or “sympathetic but powerless administrator.” By the end of the day, the ASEs’ collective action got Admin to initiate off-cycle paychecks for all the affected ASEs. This was a huge relief and win for the Plant Pathology ASEs!
Our strength is in numbers, and making even bigger wins in the future will take power. Now that you’ve signed up for membership, can you take a minute to ask three of your colleagues? You can find the link to send them here!
Health Insurance Change ASEs pushed WSU Admin hard during bargaining to win better healthcare. That pressure has paid off! Starting August 16th, 2024, WSU’s healthcare plan will be changing from UnitedHealthcare StudentResources to Aetna Student Health starting. Find detailed information here about the increased provider network, new prescription coverage, access to specialists, and changes to the telehealth platform.
