We are just two weeks until the beginning of our Strike Authorization Vote from October 30 – November 6!
As you may know, WSU Admin have failed so far to move towards our ASE bargaining team on key issues, such as wages and fees, and anti-discrimination. For wages and fees, we have proposed to bring all ASEs up to at least a liveable wage for where they are located, and to waive all fees. For anti-discrimination, we have proposed expanding protected classes at the University and ensuring that ASEs have an enforceable mechanism by which we can report and combat retaliation. Meanwhile, WSU Admin respond to our proposals with incredulity, characterizing them as “breathtaking” and “simply beyond the world we live in.” But we know that these improvements are necessary in order for ASE workers to live a dignified life and to be able to do their best work for the WSU community. We cannot go on the way things are. It is untenable. Change is needed. And that’s why we’re holding a Strike Authorization Vote (SAV).
With these issues in mind, here’s why Nas Cardwell, a Research Assistant in Chemical Engineering on the Pullman campus, is voting YES on October 30th, Day 1 of the SAV:
A successful SAV requires mass participation – let’s work together to make sure that we have a strong supermajority voting YES! Here’s some ways you can help:
- Come to a training to learn how to help get out the vote & ask more questions about how a strike or SAV will work! RSVP for a session here!
- Text three ASE friends/colleagues about the SAV & get them to sign up for trainings.
- Read the Strike FAQ and reply to this email if you have questions.
