Almost 400 ASEs participated in the Day of Action at events across 8 campuses and RECs! Despite the weather, it was incredible to see hundreds of ASEs come together to show Admin that we will not back down until we win a fair contract! Our voices were heard! If you missed out on events you can catch up on the various news coverage including The Lewiston Tribune, KIMA, Murrow News, Northwest Public Broadcasting and Moscow-Pullman Daily News. We’ll continue to post updates and new coverage on our social media pages.
Health Insurance-Related Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Update
ICYMI, on September 18th, our union filed an Unfair Labor Practice complaint regarding WSU’s failure to bargain changes to the healthcare plan. On September 28, the Washington State Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) issued a cause of action statement that finds merit to our allegations, agreeing that Admin’s refusal to bargain over healthcare was illegal (read PERC’s decision here). WSU Admin now hashave 21 days to specifically admit, deny, or explain every fact written in the original statement. After the complaint is answered, PERC will schedule a ULP hearing. In the meantime, it’s up to us to continue to put pressure on Admin to come to the table and right these wrongs. Join us at future bargaining sessions (upcoming: Oct 3 & Oct 31st) to continue to put pressure on Admin to come to the table ready to bargain over healthcare.
Next steps: Strike Authorization Vote (SAV)
ASEs on all campuses displayed a lot of energy and enthusiasm around the next steps at the Day of Action. A verbal call for Strike Authorization Vote (SAV) at the Pullman campus was met with thunderous and overwhelming agreement from the crowd. We will continue to escalate pressure on Admin to win a fair contract. To get involved in organizing and planning the SAV vote, attend the first meeting this Wednesday at 3 pm. Fill out this jotform to get an email with information on how to join or to be involved in future meetings (even if this time doesn’t work for you).
Have questions about SAVs or striking in general? Rest assured, you can find answers by visiting Strike FAQ on our website, or reach out to a fellow ASE on the bargaining committee!
